History

Farnell Properties and Development Ltd. was established in Edmonton, Alberta in 1999.  The principal partners Tony and Judy Yakielashek have been involved in the construction industry for over 30 years.  In 2005 Farnell Properties and Development Ltd. relocated to Grande Cache, Alberta recognizing the long term potential for both the company and its employee’s family’s future.

Tony Yakielashek began his career in construction in the late 1960’s in Edmonton and Grande Cache.  In 1972 he moved to Courtney, BC and became part owner and operations manager of the general contracting firm, Farnell Builders Ltd. Under Tony’s management, Farnell Builders Ltd. quickly diversified and expanded into land development, as Sunland Developments Ltd., and into heavy civil construction, as JC Excavating.  During the 1970’s this group of company’s completed a large number of projects, valued at over 25 million dollars (project values are in 1999 dollars)

Tony has gained his experience in the construction field “from the ground up” and therefore has an in-depth understanding of the many facets of managing a project.  During the 1990’s Tony was a partner with his son David Yakielashek in Anthony James Builders Ltd. who specialized in framing hotels and motels in Central and Northern Alberta.

Tony and Judy Yakielashek formed Farnell Properties and Development Ltd. in 1999 with a focus on real estate investment and property management.  During this time the company acquired and renovated both single and multifamily rental properties.  In 2005 Farnell Properties and Developments Ltd. was moved to Grande Cache and has diversified its core business to include land development, multifamily construction and commercial construction.

In 2010 Farnell Developments will complete over 9 million dollars worth of business.  Our current projects are Phase 2 of the Eagle Rock Condominiums a 58 unit multifamily project, the Main Street Lofts a 47,000 sq ft mixed use project, SUPERVALU Grande Cache a new 17,000 sq ft grocery store and Phase 1 of The Market Urban Village.
